These kinds of abilities are at their worst when you're losing money on the Runescape gold deal. They feel like another job you have to pay for. Some other skills, such as Agility, feel incongruous. Agility lets you access time-saving shortcuts around the world, but you train it by running circles around rote obstacle courses. Agility is dynamic and helpful in activity, but training it's a chore that is totally divorced from what you actually use the skill for.
I would like to see more abilities follow the version of my favorite ability, Slayer, which is about killing creatures assigned by Slayer masters. Slayer makes training your battle skills more enjoyable by taking you all over Runescape, and because it enables you to fight so many different creatures, you get item drops which fuel a variety of Buy OSRS gold non-combat abilities --gems for Crafting, seeds for Farming, alloy bars for Smithing. I'd love to see that kind of diversity come into abilities such as Herblore and Agility, and I want to see more abilities interact with other skills, like how I trained Woodcutting when leveling Hunter. Efficiency is enjoyable, and Runescape is at its finest when you're not stuck doing something.
Happily, some of Old School Runescape's latest updates introduced minigames that help liven up otherwise boring skills like Cooking and Firemaking. And while some skills continue to be dull to train, they are at least more rewarding thanks to the accession of skill-gated regional diaries which give you a globetrotting to-do list--kill this creature, speak to the NPC, finish this quest, craft this item and so on. Completing diaries unlocks exceptionally useful utilities and shortcuts, so that they motivate you to train abilities and complete quests. They also supply a small but valuable dose of direction: if you want a new target, you could always work on your own diaries.
